Making Money by Selling Clothes at Thrift Stores
Learn what types of clothes thrift stores buy and how much money you can make selling unwanted clothes. Plus hanging out with Mom.
Hey, guys! So, my closets are overflowing with clothes I’ve never worn or don’t wear anymore. And, let me be honest many of them still have the tags on (LOL!).
So, I figured it was time to declutter and maybe even make some money. So I decided to try selling some of my clothes to thrift stores in the area.
My first stop: Uptown Cheapskate! I had a big bag of clothes, some pretty new, and some gently used. While I was waiting for them to go through my clothes I couldn’t resist browsing the store, and I snagged a super cute pair of sunglasses for only $6.99 ( even though I probably don’t need them).
After about 30 minutes, the verdict was in: they’d only take four of my items for a total of $13. Not what I was expecting, but hey, every dollar counts, right?!
Next up was Plato’s Closet. The vibe here was definitely different – just a little more chaotic, and the clothes seemed more worn compared to Uptown Cheapskate. I didn’t find anything to tempt me this time, but they did take four of my name-brand pieces for $11!
All in all, it was a pretty good experience. I made a total of $24 and learned a bit about what kind of clothes these stores are looking for. Plus, I got rid of a bunch of stuff I wasn’t using anymore – a win-win!
Oh, and the rest of the clothes that didn’t make the cut… those are going straight to Goodwill for donation.
If you’re thinking about trying this yourself, then definitely give it a shot. Just be prepared to wait a bit and remember, that condition of the clothes and brand names are key.
Good luck and happy selling!
